Plant Medicine Ceremonies with Shaman Nato Tupinambá
Our journey begins and ends with powerful ceremonies led by Nato Tupinambá, a gifted shaman from Alter do Chão, whose work bridges the seen and unseen through the ancient teachings of his Borari ancestors. Nato may offer Rapé, a sacred Amazonian plant medicine he prepares himself, to support deep spiritual cleansing, grounding, and connection to nature. These ceremonies create a sacred space to set intentions, honor the land and water, and open to profound personal healing. Held by Nato’s wisdom, we are guided to reconnect—with the earth, each other, and the parts of ourselves ready to be seen.
Dulce’s Lilly Pad Garden and the Enchanted Forest Walk
The Jari Channel offers a softer, slower glimpse into the Amazon’s floating forests, where sloths, monkeys, and pink river dolphins may surprise us along the way. We’ll visit Dona Dulce, a local matriarch whose water lily garden is both a sanctuary for wildlife and the inspiration behind her magical Amazonian treats. Her presence is a living reminder of how deeply nature nourishes creativity and life. We’ll complete our journey with a walk through the Enchanted Trail, where the forest reveals its quiet magic and the bond between people, animals, and the earth comes alive.
Silent Trail at Maguary with an Overnight Experience
The 9-mile Silent Trail at Maguary invites you into the heart of the Amazon, where the stillness becomes your guide. This can be expanded into an overnight experience, offering the rare gift of sleeping beneath the sacred canopy as the forest breathes around you. The journey culminates at the base of the ancient Samaúma tree, a towering guardian of the jungle whose presence awakens something primal and reverent within. In this powerful silence, you’ll meet both the land—and parts of yourself—you’ve never encountered before.

"This was the trip of a lifetime."
I honestly don’t even know where to begin with my praise of the Amazon experience curated by Maira. From the moment I set foot on the sands of the Tapajós at sunset for an opening ceremonial welcome from a shaman of the Tupinambá people, complete with blessings from a pink river dolphin to our closing sunrise mediation five days later, it was an absolutely impeccable and honestly magical experience, in the most genuine sense of the word. Through Maira’s years of activism and involvement in the community, learning and studying the people and culture of the area, she has amassed a breadth of knowledge and incredible network of people that she passionately shared with us. We were welcomed into the Munduruku village of Bragança, greeted by young tribesmen in canoes as though in a movie - and shown a glimpse into a world not available to any usual tourist trip. This was very personal and intentional experience. Maira also arranged a most incredible closing night experience with a local group of storytellers, musicians and chefs on the beaches of the Tapajós, complete with traditional fireside tales and dancing. I cannot say enough good things about my heart-and mind-expanding experience with Maira, and she accompanied us through it all with such attention and joy. A life highlight.

During the retreat, I indulged. I forgot. I forgot why I used to see only black and white. Upon re-entering my life, people could see they could feel the brightness, lips stained, eyes wide, stomach full, chest expanded. I was so in love with life again. So much so that I realized that my baseline the past few years, which had been much better than some depressed periods I've had in the past, was not authentic or fair. I watched my mom see that I finally believe all of her kind words. I watched my partner see the girl he fell in love with four and a half years ago. I remembered.

Before the retreat I was feeling so lost. I didn't know where my value lied. I just prayed it was there. These women, the ones I now call my sisters, saw me clearer than I'd ever been seen before. I learned that people can't see you when they don't see themselves. I learned / remembered that the right ones will see you, appreciate you and value you. I came into this experience with a little fear and uncertainty but also knowing that this is right. And dam was I right. Dam dam dam, earth shattering. I moved past more blocks up level to a higher self consciousness in five days than I had in five years of therapy reading, consuming self help and personal development shit. Yes, that built a strong foundation to work from. But it is very apparent to me that it was in the action and the interaction where the real magic happens, transformation. This is not a temporary fix either. At the end of a particularly moving chapter or podcast episode, perhaps I would jot down some notes and determined to put these newly acquired lessons to work in my life. But this experience, this was a tsunami, a flood washing over me cleansing me of, of what was not serving me. I am so eternally grateful. I led myself back to myself.
